Outsource Your Way To A Better Small Business
Can’t do it all yourself anymore? Let independent contractors come to your rescue. They’re fast, reliable, and they’ll save you some money.

By Suzanne Martin

Look at your workweek. Chances are that as a self-employed entrepreneur your tasks fall into two distinctive realms.

There are the core activities that you perform as an architect, magician, real estate agent or whatever you do to follow your trade and passion. If you’re an architect, you design a home. If you’re a magician, you entertain an audience. Core activities are stimulating, rewarding and revenue producing

Then there are the non-core tasks that add up to the work of running your small business—bookkeeping, marketing, tax reporting, buying office supplies and other routine deeds. Non-core activities are generally less thrilling than core activities and they sometimes require a level of expertise that entrepreneurs just don’t have. But, how efficiently you tackle those non-core responsibilities can make or break your business.

That’s why many experienced small-business owners choose to outsource peripheral activities. They weigh the speed, quality and costs of outsourcing. And they find that many tasks are more efficiently performed by someone outside of the organization.

Since 1999, outsourcing in smaller businesses has increased 25 percent. So how can you make outsourcing a piece of your success puzzle? In this article, you’ll learn about the risks and rewards as well as the nuts and bolts of outsourcing.
